Alec Baldwin is a famous America actor, producer, and director. He is the oldest and most famous of the ‘Baldwin brothers’, his younger brothers Daniel, Stephen, and William are all well known actors as well. Alec is best known for his starring roles in the movies ‘The Hunt for Red October’, ‘Pearl Harbor’, and ‘The Aviator’.

Alec was born on April 3rd, 1958, in Massapequa, Long Island, the first of six children. He was initially interested in pursuing a career in law, and was a political science major at George Washington University. Upon changing gears and deciding to be an actor, he studied drama at New York University and the Lee Strasberg Institute.

His acting career began with a role on the TV series ‘The Doctors’, and in a series of stage productions. After performing on Broadway in 1980, Alec moved to Los Angeles and where he was able to get a role on the television series ‘Knots’. His first movie appearance was a starring role in the 1986 film ‘Forever Lulu’. His success from that movie landed him roles in seven others in the next two years, including ‘Beetlejuice’, ‘Married to the Mob’, and ‘Talk Radio’.

In 1989, Alec starred as Jack Ryan in the Tom Clancy based script ‘The Hunt for Red October’, a role that landed him international fame. The movie spawned a series of follow ups using the same character, all based on Clancy novels, but Alec turned down the offer to continue as Jack Ryan. Harrison Ford picked up the role instead, and Alec returned to Broadway to perform in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. Alec won a Tony award for his acting in that production.

Alec married Kim Bassinger in 1993, having met her on the set of ‘The Marrying Man’. Though it introduced the young couple to each other, the movie was a tremendous flop. In the early 1990’s, Alec starred in a number of movies that all turned out poor box office results, and it seemed his career was on something of a decline. With some exceptions, this trend continued until 1999, when he starred in the movies ‘Outside Providence’ and ‘Thick as Thieves’, both of which fared well.

Alec has demonstrated an enormous versatility in his acting talent, comfortable in seemingly any role on either stage or in front of a camera. All of his most recent movies have been very successful, and it looks as though his acting career is far from over.
