Every semester it seems as though tuition fees go up. Most college and university students struggle to find enough money to cover their tuition, their books and their living expenses. If there is a way for them to save some pennies, they are more than willing to consider it. A student book exchange is one such approach and it’s becoming more and more popular in campuses all over the world.

Typically a college student is expected to spend several hundred if not thousands of dollars on books for their classes. Many of these books are used in one class for one semester never to be touched again. The idea behind a student book exchange is to recycle these books so more and more students can not only use the same book, but can save a good deal of money as well.

Although it’s certainly acceptable to sell books themselves, most young adults don’t want the hassle. They’d rather take their books to one central location and have them sell the books. This is how a student book exchange works. Once the student has completed their studies in a particular class, they take the book to the student book exchange and it is sold. The student then receives a portion of the proceeds, with the rest covering a consignment fee.

This is not only beneficial for the person selling the book but it also has real benefits for the student purchasing the book. All books at a student book exchange are used. Many exchanges will only accept books that are in good shape. This means that you won’t find any missing pages or serious stains on the books at a student book exchange. They may have some gentle wear but they are certainly considered usable.

Most students are aware of the courses they will be taking several weeks before classes begin. This is the ideal time to visit the student book exchange. Many pupils are recognizing the value in purchasing used books and at times there can actually be a shortage of required texts. If this does occur the students who were slow to seek out these books are forced to purchase new, higher priced textbooks.

For a student who wants to make some extra money they should inquire about selling their used texts. This is true even if they are interested in selling books from several semesters ago. Many classes use the same books for years as part of their curriculum. If you do happen to have some books sitting around, take them to the student book exchange and let someone else enjoy them while you prosper.
