There truly is something to the rumors of the South being more hospitable. I've seen this first hand. I experienced it for 15 years while growing up in North Carolina. It wasn't until I visited other areas like Portland, Oregon and Manhattan that I really noticed it. People are different down south, and I don't just mean the southern accent. They offer a friendly warmth, whether they know you or not. So don't be surprised if an older woman addresses you as honey or sugar. In fact, you'd better expect it. Anyway, it was no big leap for me to adapt to the charms of Savannah Georgia. Here you will also receive the stellar hospitality and kindness. I guarantee it will be nothing like Vegas or L.A. If someone bumps into you on the street, you'll get a quick "pardon me." Now, I have to say that I really prefer it this way. The relaxing atmosphere and earnest kind behavior of cities like Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Savannah Georgia are hard to come by now days.

It's time you made the trip. You can only avoid southern hot spots like Savannah Georgia, Charleston, South Carolina for so long. I highly recommend a trip to both. Each has a phenomenal historical district, as well as plenty of southern charms to keep you satisfied during your stay. Regardless of which you decide to visit, be sure you check out the haunted tours while you're there. These are worth every penny. And don't dismiss that wonderful southern cooking. Everyone needs a taste of the South.
