So is it “Poor Michael Jackson,” or is it “Michael Jackson’s at it again”?
He is the King of Pop, selling his first solo albums, Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad (the latter of which Prince said he had to call Bad as Pitiful wouldn’t fit on the album cover), and continuing to be a best-selling star in many countries, all the way through to 2005. He starts an innovative choreography craze that includes original moves and vocals imitated the world over. He starts (or stands alone in) fashion trends—one glove, black and white and white. He starts cosmetic alterations. And he starts commenting on his own greatnesses. First he is king of pop, then he is a picked-on victim (is Jesus Christ)…and still is “picked-on”. He’s quoted as saying such god-like delusional comments as “I love E. T. 'cos it reminds me of me. Someone from another world coming down and you becoming friends with them and this person is, like, 800 years old and he's filling you with all kinds of wisdom and he can teach you to fly.” and “…But still I must achieve. I must seek truth in all things. I must endure for the power I was sent forth, for the world, for the children. But have mercy for I've been bleeding a long time now.” Then he is accused of child molestation by a kid who drops the case when Michael Jackson pays his family (or makes a charitable contribution to them), to support them in their treatments for the accuser (a 13 year-old with cancer at the time of the allegations). He is accused of contributing to the delinquency of minors whom he allegedly plied with booze, allegedly shared Internet porn with them, and allegedly masturbated the boys—to “show them how to”. Michael Jackson then allegedly holds the family—his guests—prisoner in Neverland. Michael also admits to and adamantly defends sleeping with boys in his own bed. Michael is accused of child endangerment or dangling one of his children over the railing of a hotel balcony—for his screaming fans to see. Michael is arrested on charges of sexually abusing a child (of 14 years of age). Again exonerated, the news of the King of Pop settles to quiet…except, he is on the verge of bankruptcy, may have to sell off his half of the Beatles lyrics, and has moved (or is on an extended visit) to Bahrain, where he is the guest of the royals, with whom his brother Jermaine has been long-time friends. Now they begin in on Michael’s NeverLand. The animals, once a part of an elaborate zoo and circus Michael ran for the children for free, are abandoned, say the rags. PETA is pursuing measures to enlist the U. S. Department of Agriculture (?) to shut down the ranch and re-locate the allegedly neglected animals to legitimate zoos and sanctuaries. According to PETA spokesperson Lisa Wathne, “…Keeping animals in any enclosure is wrong.” Therefore, the injunction will be to have the animals taken to another enclosure? Poor Michael Jackson. Or is he, rather, the deluded one who is at it again in the abuse department? Or are those against him overzealous about the hypocrisy and the greed?
